Boston Dynamics has released a video showing off the capabilities of the latest version of their hi-tech humanoid robot named Atlas. It is specialized for mobile manipulation and is electrically powered and hydraulically actuated. It uses sensors in its body and legs to balance and stereo sensors in its head to avoid obstacles, assess the terrain, help with navigation and manipulate objects. This new and improved version of Atlas is about 5′ 9″ tall, weighs 180 lbs.and can get right back up on its own after being pushed to the ground.
Google acquired Boston Dynamics, as well as 7 other robotics companies in the year 2013.
